Learning Resources – Spring 2023
As well as attending rehearsals, we would appreciate it if you dedicate some of your own time to learning the notes. This ensures that the time spent in rehearsal with our conductor is productive in terms of blending the voice parts well and concentrating on making the overall sound more ‘musical’.
Learning CDs or on-line resources, which play your line prominently with the other parts in the background, are a good way to learn if you don’t read music or don’t have a keyboard.
Handel Messiah (please note there may be slight note variations compared to the Barenreiter score – if you spot any major discrepancies, please let me know on firstname.lastname@example.org)
Choraline is a paid resource – Barts members can get 10% off their purchase using BARTS10, applicable to online downloads/CDs only, however not the app’s files.
There’s not enough performance time for us to sing all the Messiah Choruses.
Choruses being omitted from our performances are:
Let all the angels of God – Barenreiter no. 31, p178 or Novello Prout no.35, p124
But thanks be to God – Barenreiter no.45, p.273 or Novello Prout no.51, p184
Some solos will also be omitted but these will be in Concert Notes (as well as sits and stands for us during the performances) which will be sent out a few weeks before our concerts.
