20th Century Classics at the Royal Festival Hall
We’re excited to tell you that Barts Choir and the Philharmonia Orchestra will be presenting an engaging programme of music by Poulenc, Rachmaninov and Vaughan Williams at the Royal Festival Hall on 4 April 2024. Directed by Ivor Setterfield, the choir and orchestra will open with Vaughan Williams Dona nobis pacem – an exciting and moving setting of words by Walt Whitman, John Bright and various biblical authors in an emotional cry for peace. After the interval, the programme continues with Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances, an orchestral suite in three movements, written in the US but nostalgic for Rachmaninov’s Russian roots, and Poulenc Gloria – a beautiful but unconventional setting of familiar words from the Latin Mass.Soloists in the choral works will be Ross Ramgobin, bass, and Jennifer Witton, soprano.Full details of the concert are in the flyer reproduced at the foot of this email. There is a printable version of the flyer here.
Do come and join us for a wonderful evening of music and bring your friends and family too!Tickets are on sale and there’s only a month to go, so don’t delay, order them now.Tickets are available through the Southbank Centre website here. Choir members can order theirs through Maggie Baird at rehearsals.
