Spring 2025 – Carmina Burana & Toward the Unknown Region

What are we singing?

Carl Orff Carmina Burana

Vaughan Williams Toward the Unknown Region

Scores:

Orff – Schott – approx.  £22.00

Vaughan Williams – Stainer & Bell – approx. £6.00

These will be on sale at rehearsal on 6 and 13 January and at subsequent Orff/Vaughan Williams rehearsals.

Pronunciation Guide

This detailed Pronunication Guide for Carmina Burana was prepared for our performance in 2008: Carmina Burana Pronunciation Barts Choir.

Rehearsal Recordings

Choralia has rehearsal recordings for both Carmina Burana and Toward the Unknown Region (free but donations are requested)

Choraline has rehearsal recording on CD or for download for Carmina Burana but not the Vaughan Williams – from £9.99

Cyberbass has Carmina Burana but not the Vaughan Williams (free but donations requested)

John Fletcher Music has both Carmina Burana and Toward the Unknown Region but you will need a paid membership to use them.
(These cost at most £1.10 per month and you can buy as little as four months’ membership, if you wish.)

There are others but some use Midi files (which require a special player) rather than Mp3 (which will play directly on your device). If anyone finds a particularly good set for these works, let us know.

Reading Sheet Music

Not everyone who comes to choir is comfortable reading sheet music. If you’re looking for help with this, Making Music (an organisation which provides resources and support across a wide range of financial, artistic and administrative areas to music groups) has lots of useful stuff here.

Listen to the works on YouTube. (These are not preferred or recommended recordings – they are simply freely available and will allow you to familiarise yourself with the music if you don’t know it.)
